Dog Vaccinations in Prosper, TX
What vaccines are recommended for my dog?
The topic of vaccinations can be complicated, and you should definitely consult with your veterinarian directly because different plans will apply to different individuals based on their lifestyle, age, and other factors. There are many variables to consider when creating a vaccination program for your pet.
In our practice, there are three main vaccines that are given regularly: rabies vaccination, distemper parvo with leptospirosis vaccination, and bordetella vaccination. Rabies and distemper-parvo vaccines are administered once every 3 years, while leptospirosis and bordetella vaccines are recommended annually. However, it all depends on your pet, their lifestyle, and their overall health.
Some vaccines are considered core vaccinations, such as rabies and the distemper parvo vaccine, while others are non-core or elective, like leptospirosis and bordetella. It depends on exposures and the types of activities they will engage in.
If there is apprehension or medical reasoning behind not administering vaccinations, we can perform blood titers. This involves sending blood to a reference laboratory to determine whether the immunity is appropriate, which can provide additional insight and help us make better decisions on whether your pet should be vaccinated.
