Jenny K Furth
Veterinarian
I obtained my undergraduate education at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University in 2011. After completing a small animal rotating internship at Auburn University in Alabama, I went on to complete a surgical internship at Capital Area Veterinary Specialists in Austin, Texas. I then taught as a clinical associate in small animal surgery at Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After working for 4 years as an emergency doctor at two of Austin’s top specialty hospitals and with the birth of my son, I transitioned to general practice. I relocated to the north DFW area during COVID to be closer to family.
I joined Prosper North Animal Medical Center in July 2023, shortly after they opened. My professional interests include ultrasonography, surgery, emergency medicine, neurology, progressive medicine, and client education. I appreciate spending time with my son and husband, as well as our two dogs, Tony (a three-legged Pit Bull Terrier with separation anxiety issues) and Gillie (an enthusiastic pogo stick Lab mix).
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation so that I could travel the world. Going back and forth from home, not having to deal with traffic or airports in general.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part about my job is helping foster the human-animal bond that we have. Animals are so innocent and naive that being able to take care of them as humans is a privilege. I think being able to help owners through client education and working with them and their pets is important.
What is the hardest part of your job?
The hardest part about being a veterinarian is not being able to solve every problem.
What is something people might not know about you?
I have one thumb shorter than the other.
If you could be any animal, what would you be?
I'd like to be a capybara. They're small, fuzzy, aquatic or semi-aquatic, social, and energetic.
What is the most difficult procedure you have done?
There was an accident where a dog was run over by an ATV vehicle, and it had a large wound on its back leg. Trying to close that, we actually used fishing lure weights to slowly, over several days, bring the skin back together and close it.
What would you do if you weren't a veterinarian?
I think I would be a teacher. I don't know at what grade, but I do think teaching some sort of science or math. I think I'd probably want to do college level.
What is your hobby?
Legos are my downfall. I get Legos and have to build them as soon as I get them. I can't stop building. Typically, I can spend a whole weekend building one of the big modular buildings. My husband has learned to just give me bags from each of the Legos at a time so that I don't sit down and do it all in one weekend. He knows that now.
What is your morning routine?
Relaxing at home on the couch with my son and my husband, or watching movies. Spending time with the dogs.
